The Epithelial Cell Curette with Wound Opener D/E is a high-precision titanium instrument designed specifically for under LASIK flap or within SMILE pocket  procedures. This versatile tool integrates an epithelial cell curette with a dual-end wound opener, providing a comprehensive solution for refractive surgery.

This Epithelial Cell Curette is meticulously crafted to gently and effectively remove epithelial cells, biconcave curette tip allows for the simultaneous scraping and removal of
epithelial cells from the anterior and posterior surface of the SMILE pocket without the need for flushing. Paired with the wound opener, this instrument allows for precise incision creation and tissue manipulation during the SMILE procedure. Its ergonomic design and titanium construction ensure durability and optimal control, enhancing the accuracy and safety of refractive surgery.

A/Prof Smita Agarwal designed a simple solution to deal with these cells without  having to lift the LASIK flap and increase the recurrence rate to 44% with re-lift and or convert the smile cap into a flap hence losing all the benefits of SMILE cap over LASIK flap.

Her technique won runners up trophy at ASCRS meeting held in Boston 2024
